planting concept - afforestation
Creation of urban forests on the site is an approach that helps solve both local and global problems. The dense plantings of large canopy trees draw carbon out of the atmosphere, mitigate stormwater runoff, reduce urban heat island effect, and have mental health benefits for the users of the site. Existing large oaks and shagbark hickories are maintained.
contextual, interactive, sculptural elements
Sculptural elements are utilized throughout the site to greet the contemporary architecture that is planned. These elements are focused on drawing on the character of the site as a place for discovery, while concurrently affording a sense of wonder to those experiencing the site.
